Meet John

Your Member for Werribee

My Background

I’m John – your Labor Member of Parliament for Werribee.

I am a committed local who grew up in Werribee. I was school captain at MacKillop College, and I have volunteered with many community groups. This is my home, and it’s an honour to give back how I can to the place that helped me become who I am.

As a former school teacher, I saw firsthand the pressures affecting local families in Werribee. With your support, I can now work to help our whole community.

Whether I am out on the truck as a volunteer firefighter or supporting our paramedics and police – community safety is a priority for me. Labor has invested in more police for Wyndham and opened the largest police station and law courts outside of Melbourne’s CBD. Since I have been in Parliament, we have introduced tough new bail laws, banned machetes and expanded weapons search powers, and brought in adult time for violent crime. As someone who has worked with young people as a teacher, I know we also need to work to turn people away from a life of crime. That’s why we have introduced the Violence Reduction Unit and will place early intervention officers in schools.

Every day I use our local transport network, and I know what it’s like trying to move around Wyndham. Labor is delivering the Wyndham Ring Road- a link that will join communities from Werribee’s west across to Tarneit. We are upgrading the interchange at Main Road and improving the traffic flow through Ballan Road with our intersection upgrade project, Labor has also delivered the West Gate Tunnel reducing congestion and saving commuters time. We have delivered the Metro Tunnel, unlocking more services for the Werribee line, and we are making our line level crossing free. We have also brought online new bus services for Werribee and Mambourin, as well as upgrading the frequency of our busiest routes.

Labor has built seven new schools in the Werribee electorate, and we are upgrading many more! We have also supported schools with more funding for mental health support, and we are helping them open up to more community groups. As someone who has taught in schools, I have seen firsthand how this investment makes a difference.

Keeping our growing community healthy is also important to me. We've made major upgrades to the Werribee Mercy Hospital, but we know there is more to do - that's why Labor is building a better Emergency Department and have opened the free Medicare Urgent Care Clinic.

Cost of living relief such as Free Kinder and free public transport for under 18s is making a big difference for local families. Slashing stamp duty from off-the-plan apartments and townhouses will help more people like me get into our own home.

I know there is more work to do and Labor has a real plan to support our growing community, deliver better healthcare, and support families with cost-of-living help that make a real difference.

I am a life-long local who will fight for our community on the issues that matter most to us: community safety, cost of living, health, schools and our local roads.

I am your voice in Parliament, and it’s my honour to represent this amazing community we call home.
